a refinished, stylish new dining area

Guys, I walked to the hardware store three times on Saturday.

It's about a half mile from my door to their door. Which means I walked three miles on Saturday.

Good. Because I haven't been to the gym since Tuesday (whoops!).

But that's besides the point.

I have been debating about whether I should paint my dining table for a while now, and I finally decided last week that I would just do it. If I hated it, I was preparing myself to strip all the paint and just stain it some dark wood stain. So I sanded it all down (twice, because I wanted to make sure that this paint actually stuck), painted three coats of flat white latex paint (from my collection of paint samples, of which I eventually will post a photo), coated it with a layer of polyurethane, and... voila! Beautiful new white dining table. And I'm in love. It's so pretty, and to be honest, the wood on the table was completely destroyed from my sister and I doing *at least* 12 years of homework on it (apparently angrily doing homework, judging by the gouges in the top... sorry mom).

These chairs were given to me by my mother when I moved to my first apartment in Chicago. They've been through multiple moves since then, and they're starting to fall apart, but I think I will always keep them the way they are.

Salt & Pepper shakers from Target. I gave up trying to keep "salt" and "pepper" written on the chalkboard sticker. Come on guys, I have a two year old, haha!

Hey little guy! I'm so glad I had to go back to the hardware store for the third time for screws. Otherwise, I would never get to see you on my cute little table. Awwww..

One of my favorite recent finds from the Mt. Sinai hospital store on Diversey Pkwy in Chicago. That place is a treasure trove, if you have time to look!

Okay future husband/lover/anyone who ever feels like sending me something. I love daffodils. I am obsessed with them. They are my favorite flowers. I'm also currently obsessing over yellow, hence the yellow flowers, candle, and linens...

I don't know, these guys just last forever. For. Ev. Er. Sandlot style.

Ikea paper lantern. Hand- drawn and -painted balloons. A little bit of whimsy on a very common item. It was very easy, and I'll post a how-to on the How-To's page within the next week!

So, I originally planned not to paint within the drawn lines, but more in a uniform way, if that makes sense. But I like the way each balloon bled out by itself.

Everything together. It's pleasant to eat here. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

How-to's will be posted in the next two days, for anyone who's feeling the painting bug bite their toes a little!

Happy Sunday, everyone. It's time to clean up the house from my little mess machine and then plan my workouts and projects for this week. What have you got planned for your week?
